Electronic cargo tracking is sometimes used in the multimodal transport. This is being done by a small electronic device fitted on the container which through satellites and GPRS sends out real time position to the tracker. New tracking equipment comes with tampering detection also.

What is the requirement of IMDG Code for such equipments?

IMDG Code 35-10 through section 7.5.4 requires such equipment to be of a certified safe type meeting the requirements of publication IEC 60079 of International Electrotechnical Commission. This publication lays out the criteria for Electrical apparatus for explosive gas atmospheres.
